The Burqa Experience

This woman is brave enough to “[explore] American fear of the veiled.” It’s a very exciting project, I think!

A Brief Rant

For the most part I’ve come to terms with the fundamentalist upbringing I had. Then someone I know goes and says or does something really stupid and/or hurtful. Then I get mad.

Having a parent tell you, “I miss the ‘real’ you,” or something else to imply that you aren’t actually yourself, in your right mind, happy etc. is very hurtful. Having an old friend say they’ll pray for you because “I know that, deep-down inside, you still really believe and you’re just going through a hard time right now” is insulting. It all is insulting. I am a rationale human being who made a decision to stop believing in something (in this case the inspiration of the Bible and Christianity as THE religion, etc.). I did not become a horrible, crazy, delusional person overnight. I can and am happy, and yes it’s REAL happiness. More

Who do you trust? Nature or Chemicals?

I had a thought this morning. The push for low-fat diets and foods is both harmful and unnatural. Why, then, would people be pushing for low-fat (the science isn’t actually there)? That’s when it hit me. It isn’t in the best interest of the food industry (or pharmaceutical for that matter) to promote foods in their natural state. If it was promoted that foods were best in their natural state, we’d be able to get most things from farmers or even grow/raise our own. But if low-fat is the “healthy” way to eat, we are stuck going to the store to buy products that have been tampered with, things that we can only get from the food industry. Also, it’s probably more expensive for companies to use foods in their whole, natural state than it is for them to be able to fill in the gaps with chemicals and other cheap fillers, allowing the real stuff to be spread further. That last bit is purely speculation on my part, but it makes sense. More

Another Day

It’s another day, and it’s a pretty good one too. Honey gave me a great massage and Buddy let me sleep in, so the morning was quite nice. I was able to dabble in the kitchen for awhile, which always makes me happy! I got tomorrow’s oatmeal (for breakfast) soaking, and then decided to get 4 cups of beans soaking. Beans aren’t on the menu for tomorrow or even the next day, but I wanted to have them prepped and cooked anyway. Why? Because when I’m actually supposed to have them prepped for a meal, I have a habit of forgetting. So now there will be lots of beans ready to go for future meals – yay me! I figure it can’t be much different than having cans of beans sitting in the cupboard, except I had the satisfaction of creating them and then putting them in the freezer. I really, really do love to create stuff.

Speaking of creating stuff, I have finally ventured into the world of pinterest. Wow! So much awesomeness in one place should be illegal!!! đŸ˜‰ But seriously. The possibilities are limitless, and I’m really excited!
